Tralee :: October 29 to 31, 2009

Just a few photos from Tralee, as it isn't nearly as much of a tourist town as Killarney and I was only there for a couple of days. Tralee is best known for the Rose of Tralee Festival held each August, a traditional beauty pageant-type competition for young ladies.

Ring of Kerry :: October 25, 2009

The Ring of Kerry is a very popular tourist destination for a reason, it's absolutely scenic and lovely, but I can't imagine how terrifying the extremely narrow road must be in the summer months, packed with tour coaches and distracted tourists trying to drive on the wrong side of the road! Killarney is a logical start and end point for the loop, but the route also travels through many picturesque towns and villages such as Killorglin, Waterville, Sneem and Kenmare.

Kerry Greyhound Connection :: October 24 to 28, 2009

Even before I found the lurcher in Limerick, I had already contacted the Kerry Greyhound Connection and offered my services in a design and marketing capacity. When I ended up near their kennel headquarters in Kerry, I had a chance to meet the volunteers and, of course, the dogs! Amanda, Clare and the rest of the group are very committed and work extremely hard to care for, and re-home, the many dogs in need of adoption. I have already created one poster for them and hope to continue to help out in whatever way I can, even if I'm far away in another part of the country.

Killarney :: October 22 to 29, 2009

Photos from beautiful Killarney National Park, right on the edge of Killarney town in County Kerry. The park grounds include Ross Castle, on the shores of Lough Leane, the gothic ruins of Muckross Abbey and the Victorian elegance of Muckross House. The first two photos are of St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney.

Limerick City :: October 19 to 21, 2009

After the adventure with the lost dog, the rest of my stay was less eventful, though I enjoyed meeting Niamh and Paul from Designers Ink where I had an interview. Many of the photos are from the top of a tower on King John's Castle, overlooking the River Shannon.

Limerick and the Lost Little Lurcher :: October 18, 2009

On my first evening in Limerick City, I was out walking when I spotted two loose greyhounds in a Cathedral cemetery. They were skittish, but I managed to get close enough to one to tie on my scarf as a leash. The other dog ran off and we couldn't find him. The little guy was too small to be a full greyhound, and not a racer, so it was more likely he was a lurcher, or a crossbreed. He was quite nervous, not accustomed to walking on a leash, but he slowly warmed up to me and was always very gentle. Of course, being a Sunday evening, the SPCA and local dog shelters were closed, so I tried the number for the Kerry Greyhound Connection, thanks to help from Brittany in Cornwall! We wandered the city for a while, with people commenting on the "cute dog in the scarf", not realizing he was only wearing it because there were no other options. Finally, I heard of some people who had been looking for a lost greyhound for a while, and I re-united him with his owners. I hope they take better care of him in the future!
